The Canadian singer and actress Alanis Morissette spoke about being sexually abused as a minor in Canada when she was about 15 years old girl. The 47 years, Alanis claimed that she was raped by a number of pedophiles and didn’t even realize that she was a victim suffering from the sexual assault. She talked about these things in a documentary by HBO titled, Jagged (2021).
According to the Washington Post, Morissette said, “ I would always say I was consenting and then I’d be reminded like, ‘ Hey you were only 15. You’re not consenting at 15.’ Now I’m like, Oh yeah, they’re all pedophiles. It’s all statutory rape.” Actually, the legal age of consent is 16 years old in Canada.
Morissette had shared that she hadn’t talked about the abuse before because it would have been ignored. She said, “I did tell a few people and it kind of fell on deaf. It would usually be a stand-up, walk-out-of-the-room moment.” Alanis intentionally didn’t reveal the names of assaulters.
She added, “ Almost every single that I would work with, there would be some turning point where the camera would go dutch angle.”
Morissette had also talked about related topics with Sunday times last year, where she said, “ Almost every woman in the music industry has been assaulted, harassed, raped. It’s ubiquitous – more in music than in the film.”
The documentary is directed by award-winning documentarian Alison Klayman and told the publication that, Hopefully, there would be other opportunities in the future for Alanis to come to film events. The documentary is set to premiere on 13 September, debut at Toronto Film Festival with the absence of Alanis Morissette despite her participation in the film. It’s reported that she had some dispute with the filmmakers and was upset.

Alanis Morissette celebrated her 11th wedding anniversary with rapper husband, Souleye by posting a sweet tribute on Instagram. The post was a smiling selfie of the couple and captioned as “ 11 years. just keeps getting deeper.”

She had shared with Billboard that they have written about five songs together and was excited about the project. She added that her husband’s work was autobiographical and a stream of consciousness of work.

They have a son, Ever Imre of 9 years old, daughter Onyx Solace aged four, and Winter, who will turn one year old in August. Morissette had shared that she had her battle with postpartum depression. She said, “For me I would just wake up and feel like I was covered in tar and it wasn’t the first time I’d experienced depression so I just thought 'Oh, well, this feels familiar , I’m depressed, I think.'”
