Her brother also worked there, and when he couldn’t find Ali at their workplace on June 18th, 2002, he called their father, Roger, to look for her. Their father, Roger, discovered her body under a blue tarp, brutally beaten and strangled to death.
Ali had invited her friend, Laurel, to visit her that day, and when Laurel arrived, she saw an odd male wandering out of the maintenance room who waved at her. She drove away and gave a detailed composite sketch of him to police during investigations.
Roger also displayed a billboard of the composite sketch on the highway and released a 50,000 dollar reward for related information. Later, a man named Benjamin Appleby, or Teddy Hoover, was found guilty as he confessed his actions.
As a result, the murderer was charged with capital murder and attempted rape. Although he tried to appeal his sentence, he was given a mandatory 50-year sentence.
