Destiny Chukunyere is a famous Maltese singer. She won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015, where she represented Malta with the song Not My Soul, which accumulated 185 points. Her score set a new record for most points earned as a winner.

She has been gaining fame as the days go by in the music field. It might not be long after Destiny gains a stronghold in the music industry with the path she is taking in her career.

Destiny Chukunyere In The Eurovision 2021

Destiny Chukunyere is steps away from winning the prestigious European song contest with the final set for 22 May 2021. She will be representing her country, Malta, at Rotterdam Ahoy when she competes with other participants from 25 European countries for the top prize. The 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is set to be held in Rotterdam, Ahoy.

While the running order for the competitors was being set with a random draw, it seems that Destiny will be the 6th on stage to sing Je Me Casse at the competition. Taking it to her social media, Destiny said she was “thrilled to perform Je Me Casse in front of millions of people, and happy to deliver the “#empowerment” message to all the audiences out there."

Destiny is passionate when it comes to music. Moreover, she is a determined one to fight back if any criticism is made to her. She was previously made a social media stir because of the short, neon pink outfit that she wore. But Destiny’s response was defiant and confident: “I feel beautiful.”

Born to a Maltese mother and Nigerian father, she and her family is no stranger to racism. But she sets herself to retort any kind of those defiant activities directed towards her with her performance on the stage.

On the other hand, the running order made Destiny’s manager, Howard Keith Debono, hit out at Eurovision as, according to him, it gives Malta a huge disadvantage. He took it to his Facebook after announcing the running order, saying that the European Broadcasting Union and host country had made it crystal clear that the running order will never give a small country like Malta a chance. He talked about how the running order was politically driven, and nevertheless, he hoped Destiny would come out strong during the performance as she is preparing to bag the prize.

Regarding the career of Destiny, Wesley Ellul took to his Facebook, saying, “Whether she wins or loses, she will be jobless.” And it seems to be a case to consider as the rising threat of COVID-19 has led to the restriction of organizing a large number of people to hold concerts and such. It is the same case in Malta too.

Ellul talked of how over 12,000 people were out of work, and even more, it is hard for the people involved in arts to forward their success in their career. And it may lead Destiny to a predicament to not be able to earn money.

Her career as a singer started in 2013. And despite her young age, Destiny has already won several awards in Malta, including the best interpretation award in the Singer Stage International Festival and the overall Grand Prix amongst the participants from seven different countries. She also represented Malta in Sanremo for the International Grand Finals, in which she triumphed, winning the overall competition.

In September 2014, she participated in the Konkors Kanzunetta Independenza Junior with her first original track Festa T’llwein, which Emil Calleja Bayliss wrote to Mark Spiteri Lucas's composition, where she placed third.

Later, she managed to win the Singer of the Year in a competition organized by ErSeb Productions and the right to represent Malta in FYR of Macedonia in October 2014. Her participation in the Asterix Original Song Festival was another success as she emerged victorious with her original entry Live & Let Live.

Following the success, she got another victory in Next Generation – which allowed her to sing at a concert in Verona. And again, she remained victorious in the Junior Eurovision as a representative of Malta, thus, winning the right to represent Malta in Sofia 2015, which she won with her original single Not My Soul.

However, the Contest was canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

After the Contest continued in 2021, she is set to battle in the finals for the top prize as a representative of Malta with the 6th performance on stage singing Je Me Casse. The competition is a costly one to be held, and as per the blog post in adamsmith.org, it says that the BBC paid the European Broadcasting Union, which hosts the competition, 310k pounds. This was a steady increase from 279,805 pounds in 2009, meaning the BBC likely pays significantly more now in 2021.

Destiny has been pursuing her career as a singer since a young age. Her trigger for the thrill of music in her life comes from Beyonce and Aretha Franklin. Moreover, as she follows her career path, she remains true to her motto, “never give up in life and always follow your dream no matter the circumstances,” and she is determined to make people happy through her music.
