American former model Gelila Bekele, born on 4 September 1986, hails from Ethiopia. Gelila has a younger sibling named Anna Wrossetti. Her grandmother Almaz raised her from an early age.
Speaking about Gelila's early life, she was born in rural villages where she was very free, climbing trees and drinking goat milk. It shaped, strangely, like how she connects to places, which makes her feel at home and herself.

Bekele traveled broadly across Ethiopia's home country to work as an activist and humanitarian. Throughout her journey, she has an idea to publish a book. She published the book “Guzo,” which means “journey,” which was debuted in 2018.
Gelila produced the documentary Anbessa, which debuted in February 2019 at the Berlin International Film Festival. She also makes a short-length documentary, Model Activists, MAi: LIFE IS NOT HONEY, and activism. In her documentary, she shows different communities' lifestyle and their struggles throughout her home country Ethiopia and across Africa.
