The 39 year old actor, Jussie Smollett was reportedly sentenced to 30 months probation for hate crime hoax that happended in 2019. He was demanded to spend the first 150 days of the sentence in Cook County Jail and he was ordered to pay $120,106 restitution to the city of Chicago and a $25,000 fine.
Jussie was seen saying that he was not suicidal and warned everyone that if anything happened to him, it would not be because of him. He was taken into custody and removed from the courtroom after hearing his sentences. The Cook County Judge James Linn then told the actor that he had done more harm to his own life with this case than she did. She also called him a liar and a charlatan who denigrated the experiences of real hate crime victims.
The Judge Cook added that Mr Smollett received a fair trial and was proven guilty based on the evidence presented on the court. The actor's grandmother, brother and his family were disappointed and upset with the court's decision. Many big names like Rev. Jesse Jackson, actor Samuel L. Jackson, actress LaTanya Jackson and more were on his defense asking judge for leniency.
However, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot supported the judge's decision and said that it was right decision to send clear message to everyone about false claims and allegations will be faced with severe punishments. He shared that Mr Smollett caused over 1500 hours of police work costing the City over $130,000 in police overtime for his false, malicious and wholly fabricated claim.
Jussie Smollett had filed a police report in January 2019 that she was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack in Streetville but after a long investigation and years in court, he was finally convicted of five of six felony counts of disorderly conduct for lying to police.
