The Real Housewives Of Orange County star Kelly Dodd and her husband, Rick Leventhal, have received a quite backlash for their insensitive Halloween costumes.
The couple is slammed for their tone-deaf Halloween costume this year with Leventhal dressing as Alec Baldwin on the set of Rust and Dodd dressed as a Native American.
The former reality star was poked by the majority of fans due to her inappropriate Halloween outfit posted on her Instagram. Her fans felt that she was using cultural appropriation and disrespecting Native American Culture.
She received negative comments like, “ Native American regalia... it’s not a costume. You need to be a little bit more sensitive.” and “ we as women don’t wear the headdresses... Just saying. Or mini length skirts.. So it’s mockery.. .. No shade.”
Kelly got to talk with Page Six addressing comments she received saying, “ people are way too sensitive. I embrace my Native American heritage. I think the fashion is beautiful, and this was a tribute and celebration.”
“ People are always looking to criticize me for anything I do, so this is no surprise. And by the way, I’ve gotten lots of love and appreciation on Instagram, too, so thank you for all the support!”
Her husband posted their Halloween pictures on his Instagram writing, “ Kelly celebrated her Native American Heritage and I celebrated the great American film actor Alec Baldwin.”
Many fans slammed her husband as disrespectful following Hutchins death due to accidental shooting on the set of the movie Rust. Halyna Hutchins and Joel Souza were struck by the gun which was not meant to have live rounds fired. It was reported that Hutchins later died from her wounds in the hospital.
The post received many comments speaking about the death of Hutchins and how disrespectful his behaviour was. One comment said, “ You two have no class. Your perfect for each other.” and another said, “ not appropriate, Rick. A young mother died.”
Her husband talked to Page Six and responded, “In no way I was trying to offend anyone, except Alec Baldwin. He's a jerk and deserves all the heat he’s getting. We planned our costumes weeks ago and I just decided to be Baldwin at the last minute.”
