Rod was convicted of an attempt to sell Obama's vacant senate seat when he was elected the President. Along with the case and other bribery crimes, he was sentenced to 14 years of prison.

After serving eight years, Trump had announced to commute the prison sentence of Rod Blagojevich on 18 February 2020. Concerning the same fact, Rod argued with the Television host, Anderson Cooper, who accused him of 'whole new alternate universe of facts' and the denial of admitting the guilt.
