Justin Trudeau (Sophie's husband)'s office announced the news on 12 March 2020. Sophie was tested after returning from the engagement in the UK and had the symptoms of mild flu since 11 March 2020.

With a keen conscience with her health, she had kept herself in a self-isolation, and as per the Prime Ministers' office, she is doing well and is going through the prescribed medications and precautions as well.

Sophie, age 44, released a statement regarding her health situation, where she also showed her concerns for all the Canadian individuals and their families.
