On 12 November 2016, he left his home to attend an afterparty in New York City and he had no idea what would happen later to him. He and his friend left their home for a night out in Manhattan and drove to the nightclub in the City's Meatpacking District. At around 4 a.m. club shut down and later he went to an afterparty with a couple of people. Then, Joey went missing.

The third suspected man of his murder was sentenced to six months in Jail Friday. Max Gemma pleaded guilty to charges of tampering with physical evidence in 2016. Then, after Gemma's sentencing, his father delivered the victim impact. Lawrence Dilione, 30, also pleaded guilty.
