Eric Clapton has reportedly won a court case against a German woman that was trying to sell a bootlegged copy of one of his concerts on eBay.
The German woman, 55, insisted she didn’t know that she was violating copyright law when she listed the CD at an asking price of 9.95 GBP as she believed that the recording was purchased by her late husband in 1987 which is more than 30 years at a well-known department store and the recording was taken at a Clapton concert in the ‘80s.
Clapton sent an affidavit to confirm that the record was illegal in the court and on Dec. 15, a judge of Dusseldorf decided that the recording was indeed illegal and forbid the sale of the CD. As per the German outlets, the woman named Gabriele P. was required to pay the legal fees of both parties which were totally $4000, and was told the possibility of facing a hefty fine and prison time if she continued to offer the recording for sale.
