The 18th of June 2020 gave a new Top Chef winner. Melissa King walked home with the prestigious title of the Top Chef leaving her competitors Bryan Voltaggio and Stephanie Cmar behind in the finale.
The finale was in Tuscany, Italy, where all three finalists were given tasks alongside the international culinary legends. The judges, Tom Colicchio, Gail Simmons, and Padma Laxmi, asked the finalists to prepare the best progressive four-course meal of their life.
Eventually, Melissa's dish won the hearts of judges. Melissa's work featured the Italian techniques and the local ingredients with the Chinese flavours of her San Gabriel Valley. The elements included char siu glazed octopus with fennel, grilled squab with persimmon, squash agnolotti with Szechuan chilli oil, Hong Kong milk tea tiramisu, and porcini and fermented black bean.
The most exciting thing about the finale is that her final recipes brought the eighth-generation Italian butcher Dario Cecchini into tears. He mentioned that Melissa's works respected Italian traditions.
Congratulations to Melissa King.
