1. Michael Bennet Was Born In New Delhi, India
Upon hearing this, some might be scratching their heads on thinking what’s the story behind a person who was born in New Delhi — was running for President of the United States in 2020?
However, there’s not such a story — except the fact that Michael Bennet, age 55, is an America-born in New Delhi. His father, Douglas Bennet, was serving as an aide to the ambassador to India, in U.S. department, before eventually his family returned to their native American soil, and settled in the Washington, DC. After this, Michael grew up in the U.S., living most of his childhood days.
It hadn’t always been easy for Bennet as a child. He had to fail his second grade because of a reading disorder, dyslexia.
2. His Mother Was A Holocaust Survivor
Bennet's father was Christian, and his mother, Susanne Klejman, a Jewish — was born in 1938 in Warsaw, Poland. Moreover, she was a holocaust survivor. Michael's grandparents and Susanne escaped imprisonment from the infamous Warsaw Camp in World War II and made their way to the United States in 1950.
Susanne was the only one who could speak English at the time while they immigrated to the United States. She then became a librarian at elementary school and volunteered at a public library in her retirement.
It could be Susanne’s love and passion for the English language that could have something to do with her son Michael Bennet, who would later become known for his activism on quality education.

Michael Bennet repeated the history when he attended Wesleyan University for his education, as it was the same alma mater of his father and grandfather.
In 1987, Bennet completed his Bachelor of Arts in history and began working as an aide to Ohio Gov. Richard Celeste from 1988 to 1990. He earned his graduation from Yale Law School in 1993, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of The Yale Law Journal.
Moving on, Bennet served as a clerk for the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and served as counsel (1995 to 1997) to the U.S. deputy attorney general and as a special assistant (1997) to the U.S. attorney at the department of justice during the Clinton administration.
It seems as if it’s almost hereditary — his grandfather, Douglas Bennet, was an economic adviser to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s administration. Also, his father, Douglas J. Bennet, worked for both Jimmy Carter’s and Clinton’s administration. Bennet’s father also served the president of National Public Radio (1983-93) and Wesleyan University (1995-2007).

4. Married Life With His Wife Then Opened Michael's New Chapters
During 1997, when Michael was working as a special assistant to the U.S. attorney, he married Susan Daggett, an environmental lawyer, who also went to Yale Law School. Later, the couple welcomed three children, all daughters, Halina, Anne, and Caroline.

In 1997, Bennet and his wife Susan decided to leave Washington and moved west to settle in Denver. He went to work in the private sector, where he served for six years as a managing director of Anschutz Investment Company. The American politician did excellent work as he helped to restructure debt and to reorganize a troubled business that was under bankruptcy orders.
While helping turn around the company, his work came to the attention of the mayor of Denver, John Hickenlooper (who was also a graduate of Wesleyan University). As they befriended, he named Bennet as his chief of staff in 2003 and worked together for two years.

It was going to be another successful spell for Michael Bennet — but this time, he was going to serve in the public sector.
In July 2005, The Denver Board of education selected Michael Bennet as superintendent of Denver Public Schools. He was a novice when he first took office; however, it flourished under Bennet's leadership.
The student enrolment increased, dropout rates decreased, and that improved graduation rates — the failing Denver Public School system rescued from falling apart.
Those reforms, which Bennet had pushed, have continued ever since.
As a champion of education, Time magazines listed him among the nation’s leading educational activists in 2011. He also went to work as Barack Obama’s advisor on education issues.
6. Kick Starting His Political Career
In 2009, there knocked an unanticipated opportunity for Michael Bennet to step up in the political world.
It all began when Ken Salazar left the U.S. Senate to become secretary of the interior, Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter interviewed several prominent Colorado democrats, before appointing Michael Bennet to fill the vacated seat and finish Salazar’s term.
The following year as he ended his term, Bennet ran for the seat for a full term as Senator from Colorado. By the end of the year 2010, he came out as a winner over his Republican opponent after a vigorous and a big-spending campaign, which reported to be one of the most expensive campaigns in the country.
